The problems with the three-piece crankshaft pulleys on S55 engines are well known, but in particular you need to make sure the original crankshaft bolt cannot work loose, which is one of the causes of crank pulley slippage.

The crankshaft bolt can work loose due to engine vibration, which means that at the slightest loss of clamping torque, your valve timing will no longer be correct. With potentially disastrous consequences, as you can imagine.


Installing this capture plate is simpler than the full pulley kit, but provides a sensible "first upgrade".
