Brake Cooling Backing Plates BMW M135i M140i F20 F21
Whether in normal driving, spirited driving or on track, there's no need to dwell on the bicycle-like brakes fitted to stock ///M cars. After a few hard stops the bite fades, or the pedal even goes to the floor.
Fitting big brakes will push the limits, but you soon start wondering " how do I get brakes that last?" When you watch pro drivers lapping for hours, it seems out of reach. But looking closely at how race brakes are designed, while discs, pads and calipers are now available to the public, the main difference lies in cooling and thermal management.
Once properly cooled, pads and discs operate at a lower temperature, greatly reducing wear and maintaining their performance lap after lap.
These backing plates allow effective cooling to be added via 50mm ducting hoses; specially designed by the Speed Engineering team from 3D scans, they fit perfectly as a direct replacement.
Mike's tip:
"After adding 60mm ducting hoses to the big Alcon brakes on my M3 E46, I could do 35min sessions at the Bugatti circuit or at Spa, and it wasn't the car that gave up but the driver! It's sometimes complicated, but it's worth it"
