Brake Cooling Backing Plate BMW M2 F87
Whether in normal driving, spirited driving or on track, there is no need to dwell on the bicycle brakes fitted to ///M cars from the factory. After a few hard stops the bite fades away, or the pedal even goes to the floor.
Fitting big brakes will push the limits, but you soon start asking yourself " how do I get brakes with endurance?" when you see pro drivers lapping for hours it seems out of reach. But looking closely at how competition brakes are designed, while discs, pads and calipers are now available to the public, the main difference comes from cooling and thermal management.
Once properly cooled, pads and discs operate at a lower temperature, greatly reducing their wear, and retain their performance lap after lap.
These backing plates allow effective cooling to be added via 50mm ducts. Specially designed by the Speed Engineering team from a 3D scan, they fit perfectly as a direct replacement.
Mike's tip:
"After adding 60mm ducts to the big Alcon brakes on my M3 E46, I could do 35min sessions at the Bugatti circuit or at Spa, and it wasn't the car that gave up but the driver! It's sometimes complicated but it's worth it"
