IPD Plenum Porsche GT4 981
After a very thorough R&D programme, IPD is launching the 82mm 981 GT4 intake plenums. The "Competition" version for the 981 increases the throttle body from the factory 74 mm to 82 mm by using the 997 GT3 throttle body.
The 981 intake is almost identical to the 987.2 intake. Porsche made a few improvements to the 981, the most notable being that the 981 draws outside air from both the driver's and passenger's air intakes instead of from the driver's side only, as was the case on all 986, 987 and 987.2 applications. IPD has developed a silicone hose specifically designed to fit the enlarged throttle body perfectly and considerably improve airflow.
Just as a dimpled golf ball travels further than a smooth one, the 981 Plenum also benefits from internal dimpling. This internal dimpling controls the boundary layer and maximises airflow. Controlled turbulent air creates less friction and swirls more efficiently along the flow surface.
Power gains with the 981 Competition Plenum are practically the same as with the 987.2 Competition Plenum, i.e. 20 horsepower and 21nm of torque at the wheels.
Most of the IPD plenum's power gains start at around 4000 rpm, continue up to the redline and are fully realised in the 6000 rpm range. IPD performance gains remain above both factory power curves across the entire rev range.
