Engine oil cooler for BMW M G8x series

The S58 engine in BMW M G8X series models has an engine oil cooler mounted horizontally beneath the central front radiators.

The problem:

The original oil cooler can easily be damaged by stones or other road debris. Due to its design and location, it is not unusual for the oil cooler to start leaking because of damage caused by small stones or other road debris. Such oil leaks can cause serious engine damage.

In addition, oil overheating problems under intensive use are common on M cars, and the oil handles 80% of the cooling; the water only acts as a supplement to stabilise temperatures.

The Solution:

To design this oil cooler precisely, DO88 used the latest design tools: a detailed 3D scan of the oil cooler mounting area combined with reverse engineering.

The design increases the active cooling surface (+14 %) and the core volume by (57 %) compared with the original oil cooler. The robust core will withstand road debris and stones much better while improving cooling performance.
